About Fab lab DU

Fab Lab DU – a digital fabrication laboratory is one of fastest growing laboratories within Dhaka University was set up in January 2017 under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), Academic Innovation Fund (Window 4) initiated by Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission of Bangladesh in association with The World Bank. Fab Lab DU, located in EEE Building within Curzon Hall, a fascinating Victorian landmark, is equipped with an array of computer-controlled tools, machines, equipments and materials with the aim to make “almost anything”.


What is a Fab Lab?

fab lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication.

A fab lab is typically equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make “almost anything”.[3] This includes technology-enabled products generally perceived as limited to mass production.

While fab labs have yet to compete with mass production and its associated economies of scale in fabricating widely distributed products, they have already shown the potential to empower individuals to create smart devices for themselves. These devices can be tailored to local or personal needs in ways that are not practical or economical using mass production.

The fab lab movement is closely aligned with the DIY movement, open-source hardware, maker culture, and the free and open-source movement, and shares philosophy as well as technology with them.


Equipments and Facilities at Fab Lab DU

Fab Lab DU offers a world class environment  with state-of-the-art digital fabrication machines such as 3D printers, CNC milling machines, laser cutters, vinyl cutters to provide a technical prototyping platform for innovation, invention, and entrepreneurship. Moreover, full-fledged printed circuit board (PCB) design facilities have been developed for designing any electrical and electronic products. Furthermore, resources are available to design and develop any robotic and microcontroller-based embedded systems. To facilitate research and development in Internet of Things (IoT) products, the lab is connected with BdRen Cloud Computing Networks. Fab lab DU offers a wide range of hands-on training and skill development programs on 3D design, laser cutter, CNC milling machines, PCB design, robotics, microcontroller-based systems, development of  IoT devices etc.



Fab Lab DU is accessible to all. This lab has been established to inspire students, researchers, faculty members, community people of all ages and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into new products and prototypes.

Fab lab has become a common workplace for regular undergraduate and graduate students of EEE, Mechatronics & Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology to name a few. This lab offers :
